Club Pasión Habanos celebrated the 3th edition of the design contest “Habanos Smoking Chair” in Spain”

More than a hundred projects submitted in the third edition of “Habanos Smoking Chair”, a Spanish contest held by Club Pasión Habanos that consolidates year after year as a reference in the world of design in Spain1It consist on a national contest aimed at finding the perfect seat for the modern Habanos smoker, which must combine the current values surrounding the : modernity, comfort, pleasure and design.

This third edition closed with a record number of participants, receiving 114 designs from both professionals and students. The winning designs were “Hip Somewhere to Smoke” (professional category), by Ximo Roca, and “GravityChair” (student category), by Josué Andreu.3The professional category is rewarded with a prize of 5.000€, and the student category with 1.000€ and an internship in Tomas Alía studio. Furthermore, both designs are produced in actual size.

The group of experts that made up the jury was composed by relevant people in the world of design such as Tomás Alía, Álvaro Catalán de Ocón (Premio AD 2014 Nuevos Talentos), Pedro Feduchi, president of DIMAD, Sison Pujol, president of the ADP, Belén Domecq and Quim Larrea (QUIM LARREA & ASSOCIATES studio), winner of the contest last year.2The exhibition of this third edition of Habanos Smoking Chair took place in Casa de América from the 23rd November to the 10th January. The visitors had the opportunity to see the prototypes of the winners’ designs in actual size, and the model of seven finalists selected among more than a hundred designs.

 

The official Denominación de Origen Protegida (D.O.P.), or Protected Denomination of Origin used only to describe the most outstanding brands of cigars, which are manufactured in Cuba to the most exacting standards established by the Regulatory Council, from tobaccos grown only in particular areas of the island that are also protected as Denominations of Origin. In English the word translates as Havanas, which are widely considered to be the best cigars in the world.
