After a long day of competition was recently selected the Habanosommelier who will represent Cuba in the upcoming 11th Habanosommelier International Contest to be celebrated as part of the 14th Habanos Festival (from February 27 to Marth 24). The absolute winner of the event was Daniel Reyes Lisea, chef of the restaurant Las Terrazas. The second and third places were Leticia Cabrera Alonso of the Restaurant “El Aljibe” and Osmin Hernandez, sommelier at the Melia Cohiba hotel respectively.
The 15 winners of the three regional competitions previously held throughout the country participated in this 12th National Edition. Only 5 of them reached the final round, which took place in the halls of Habana Libre Tryp Hotel.
The jury, made up by renowned and prestigious specialists from the world of gourmets and the Habano, was unanimous in recognizing the high qualification and professionalism of the winner, who, in addition to the demonstration of his wide knowledge of the product, skillfully and elegantly presented the Habano service, which includes the cutting and lighting ritual as well as his proposal for the marriage between food-drink and Habanos, S.A. Ana Lopez, Marketing Director of Habanos s.a. and member of the jury noted the presence for the first time in this event of a kitchen chef, who showed an impressive knowledge about the Habanos product.
During the event were also selected national representatives to the 2nd International Blind Tasting under the 14th Habanos Festival, they are: Leticia Alonso Cabrera, Orlando Peñalver and Osiris Orama.
