Great success with record of players in the 3rd Montecristo golf cup held in Varadero, which counted with the presence of great golf legend Mr.Tony Jacklin.
The Third Edition of the Montecristo Golf Cup was held in Varadero, Cuba, from 14th – 16th of April, 2011.
After having received guests like Ernie Els and Alvaro Quirós in the two previous editions, this time, the event had the pleasure to welcome Mr. Tony Jacklin. Jacklin was the winner of two major tournaments the US open and the British Open, and may be also remembered for his involvement in the Ryder Cup. He was a playing member of the team 7 times, as well as Captain of the European team with great success in the 80´s, winning it 3 times as a captain as well.
With a huge success in the participation, finally there were 92 players from 15 countries: Germany, Canada, Korea, France, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina, Spain, United States, Ireland, Aruba, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Russia and Cuba.
The prize giving ceremony was held on Saturday April 16th in the Varadero Golf Club. Mr. Tony Jacklin made the gift to the Varadero Golf Club of a picture handcrafted by himself in wood, that honours the figure of the modern golf creator that set the 18 holes standard in golf at the end of the 19th century in Sant Andrews.
In the Montecristo Cup the prizes were given to:
Winner: Mr. Dionisio García Esquivias, from Spain.
2do prize: Ms. Kim, from Korea
3er prize: Mr. Steve William, from Canada.
Organized by Palmares S.A., the institution in charge of golf in Cuba along with The Esencia Group, the event also counted with the participation of Les Forbes, the Canadian Architect that designed the Varadero Golf Club course that was inaugurated in 1997.
The cup will be organized again in 2012 for it s 4th edition. We hope to count again with the presence of players and personalities from all around the world.
