Montecristo is the best known and, perhaps, best appreciated of the Habanos brands and is considered by many to be the benchmark in Habano flavour. Its name is inspired by the novel The Count of Montecristo, by Alexandre Dumas, extremely popular among the torcedores -cigar rollers- at the H. Upmann factory in Havana, where the brand was established in 1935.

The historic Montecristo range, which initially only comprized vitolas 1 to 5, gradually expanded to cater for the varied tastes of the most discerning smokers. In 2004, a new vitola,  Edmundo (52 ring gauge x 135 mm in length), was incorporated into the brand, catering for aficionados of thick ring gauge formats. This was complemented two years later by the  Petit Edmundo (52 ring gauge x 110 mm in length). In 2013, the Línea Edmundo was expanded with the arrival of a new vitola, Double Edmundo (50 ring gauge x 155 mm in length), allowing all the aromas and flavours of the classic Edmundo blend to be enjoyed in a smoking time of around an hour.

In 2009, the Línea Montecristo Open was created, with four new vitolas incorporating a blend less strong than the other Montecristo vitolas, designed to satisfy generations who enjoy the pleasure of open spaces.

Montecristo - Vitola especial 80 Aniversario (3)-Grande

In 2013, Montecristo Petit No.2 (52 ring gauge x 120 mm in length) was introduced in the brand portfolio, in the Línea Clásica. It is conceived for figurados -tapered at one end- aficionados who want to be delighted with all the Montecristo flavor in a shorter period of time.

Their exquisite blend is made exclusively with leaves from Vuelta Abajo* (Pinar del Río*), the land of the world best tobacco. It’s two blends, the medium-to-strong flavoured original, and the medium-strength Línea Open, offer a distinguished aroma that continues to captivate both experienced smokers and novices alike.
