Closing Afternoon Crowned

An afternoon full of surprises crowned the VI Habanos Festival closing, when the awards of the International Habanosommelier Contest and the Commercial Fair were conferred.

Presided by Oscar Basulto Torres, Co-president, and Habanos S.A. vice-presidents, the event had Simon Chase, of Hunters and Frankau Company, on the dais, who made known the judges´ verdict.

Zoe Nocedo Primo, director of the City Historian’s Office’s Cigar Museum, awarded the winner of the “Rodrigo de Jerez” National Poetry Contest, which was rescued this year by the aforementioned institution.

According to Nocedo, such an event was developed first on November 19th, 1942, when the no-longer-existing National Commission for Propaganda and Defence of the Cuban Cigar decided to create it.

For the purpose of investigating and disseminating the history of the tobacco-related culture, the next edition of the “Rodrigo de Jerez” Contest will be dedicated to the essay.
Within this framework, Nocedo called participants to attend the first “Habanos 2005” Symposium, which is organised by the City Historian’s Office’s Cigar Museum and will be held from June 21-24.

Javier Terrés de Ercilla, Vice-President of Development of Habanos S.A., made the final speech at the closing, and he thanked the support provided by all the persons involved in organising the event.
