The Habanosommelier contest was first celebrated in November 2000 at the initiative of Habanos, S.A., and was later included into the events scheduled in the Habanos Festivals. The 16 winners of the three regional competitions previously held throughout the country participated in this 11th National Edition. Only 7 of them reached the final round, which took place in the halls of Habana Libre Tryp Hotel.

The jury, made up by renowned and prestigious specialists from the world of gourmets and the Habano, was unanimous in recognizing the high qualification and professionalism of the winner, who, in addition to the demonstration of his wide knowledge of the product, skillfully and elegantly presented the Habano service, which includes the cutting and lighting ritual as well as his proposal for the marriage between food-drink and Habanos.
