inauguracionFeria01Havana , February 23, 2005.—The Trade Fair of the VII International Habano Festival was inaugurated here yesterday. Raúl de la Nuez, Minister of Foreign Trade of Cuba; Fernando Domínguez and Oscar Basulto, Co-Chairmen of the Habanos, S.A., Corporation; and around 50 professionals related to the tobacco sector and representatives of companies linked to the world of gourmet food and luxury items attended the opening.

The VII International Habano´s Festival got off to a great start two days ago with a welcome cocktail in Havana’s Museum of Fine Arts for over a thousand people—smokers and tobacco officials—from 52 countries.

The inauguration of the Trade Fair included an exhibit of coins sponsored by the Cuban Coin Houseand the launching of a commemorative coin—Cuban Tobacco since 1492—by Eusebio Leal, historian of the city of Havana.

The Fair’s activities included the launching of the Guayabera Vegas Robaina, brand named in honor of Alejandro Robaina, the most famous Cuban tobacco grower. (He is the only Cuban for whom a brand of Habanos has been named.) In addition, continuing what is now a well-established Fair tradition, Crisanto Cárdenas taught a class in cigar rolling—this time, of the Petit Robusto size.

The extensive program of activities also includes the Whisky and Cigar Challenge and the Habano Sommelier International Contest, with participants from many different countries; tours to cigar factories— La Real Fábrica de Tabacos Partagás (the Royal Partagás Cigar Factory) and Miguel Fernández Roig ( La Corona) Cigar Factory—to see just how Habanos are made; and a visit to the cigar warehouse in Guanabacoa.

Habanos, S.A., a world leader in the premium cigar market, sells Habanos both in Cuba and in the rest of the world. It has an exclusive international distribution network, with outlets in more than 120 countries.

Habanos , S.A., distributes a wide range of products: over 80 sizes in 34 brands, among which Cohiba, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, Partagás, Hoyo de Monterrey, Quintero, H.Upmann, Punch, San Cristóbal de La Habana, Trinidad and Cuaba are particularly outstanding.
