Condolence Message

It is with deep regret we announce that Simon Chase has passed away in London after a long illness. Known to many for his expertise and knowledge about cigars, he worked for Hunters & Frankau from 1977 and was their Marketing Director until he retired in 2009. Following his retirement, Simon continued as a non-Executive Director and consultant for Hunters & Frankau. He also contributed to a number of cigar related publications.

Simon Chase was involved with and a great friend to many people in Cuba having visited the island for the first time in the late 1970’s.  He was well known for his exceptional efforts at the annual Habanos Festivals, serving as the Gala Dinner auctioneer every year from 1999 up to and including 2015. During his tenure as auctioneer he raised many millions of dollars for the Cuban Public Health System. It was a role that he was very proud of.

Simon was a tireless promotor of cigar culture and knowledge around the world and in 1998 he was awarded Habanos Man of the Year for Communications. His writing and work greatly contributed to the professional growth and development of Habanos, not only for those in the industry, but also for the millions around the world who enjoy cigars. In recent years his efforts had been more focused on legislative matters and he also achieved great success in this area on behalf of our industry.

His many friends and colleagues at Habanos send sincere condolences to his family and friends
