International Contest “The Habano in Images”

logo-concurso-imagenes-2014Considering our interest to promote and disseminate a better knoledgement about the devoted and enriching experience carried out by tobacco growers and cigar hand-rollers in the making of the famous Habanos, Corporación Habanos s.a. takes pleasure to call the professional and amateur artists from all over the world to present audiovisual works as the result of their possible inspiration in the International Contest “The Habano in Images 2014”,during the upcoming edition of the 16th Habanos Festival, to be held in La Habana, Cuba, from February 24th through 28th, 2014.

The Habanos Festival, an internationally known event of its kind in the world, is an adequate framework for the celebration of this contest, which pretends to present in images a culture that goes beyond customs, borders and political barriers, uniting worldwide thousands of people who admire and enjoy the quality of an authentically Cuban product: the Habano.


The Official Jury, international in its character and made up by personalities of culture in general, and particularly by specialists and masters in the culture of the Habano, will grant a Unique Grand Prize and as many mentions as the Official Jury considers convenient. The decision of the Jury to grant the prize will be final and unappealable.

The Grand Prize will consist of an invitation, with all the expenses covered, to the winner of the contest and one accompanying person to the 17th Habanos Festival to be celebrated in February 2015.

The professional and amateur artists from any part of the world may compete in the contest, regardless of their nationality, sex, age or religious belief.

The audiovisual works must be filmed in 35 mm, 16 mm or digital form, and must not be dated prior to 2009. They must be presented in the form of documentary, reportage, advertising spot, etc., with a maximum length of 25 minutes. DVD copies of works in 35 or 16 mm will be accepted. The works may be subtitled in Spanish.

Works subtitled or spoken in other languages must be accompanied by their list of dialogs in the original language. DVD copies must be in NTSC or PAL system, while DVCAM will only be accepted in NTSC. Copies in ETACAM or U-MATIC will not be admitted.

The participants must send by e-mail the data: title and date of the work, complete name of the author or authors, country, e-mail address to rsalas@habanos.cu and whernandez@habanos.cu to ensure the registration, selection and appraisal in charge of the Jury.

In all cases, the participants must send, together with their works, their biographical data or Curriculum Vitae.

The authorship rights of prized works will be automatically transferred to Corporación Habanos, S.A. for their use and distribution in the activities inherent to the entity.

The participation in the contest implies the full acceptance of its bases, with all its norms and conditions.


All the works in contest will be exhibited during the Festival in order to give more information on the Habano and to stimulate the interest of the participants and public in general on the product.


The deadline for the registration and remittance of original works extends up to February 15, 2014. The works should be sent to the following address:
