From October 22nd to 24th 2020 was celebrated in Mexico the 7th Habanos Day organized by Importadora y Exportadora de Puros y Tabacos S.A. de C.V. (IEPT), Distributor of Habanos, S.A. for that country. This unprecedented and virtual event was held with the objective of transmitting the cigar culture to all cigar aficionados throughout the country. A welcome pack that included a cigar, a glass, matches, a cutter and the distillate for tasting, was sent to all participants in the virtual activity.
More than 300 attendees were part of the virtual event from their homes and enjoyed the tastings, conferences, workshops and contests, which were conducted by Specialists. The activities carried out were also broadcast by La Casa del Habano and selected Habanos Specialists stores in the country.
Thursday 22nd was dedicated to the Whisky experience, which began with a conference on Scotch whisky by Manolo Santiago, Master in Habanos and Habanos Ambassador in Mexico, together with Alex Millán Brand Ambassador for Chivas Regal and The Glenlivet Whisky. Participants were also invited to enjoy two Habanos pairings: Chivas Regal 18 with Ramon Allones Specially Selected and The Glenlivet 15 with Punch 48.
On Friday 23rd, a live tasting was held between Habanos and an innovative Mexican liquor with Café Corajito. Later, a conference on champagne was given by José Espinosa, Brand Ambassador for Martell Cognac and G.H. Mumm Champagne. Also on this day, two more pairings were made, this time with Mumm Champagne and the El Príncipe of San Cristóbal de la Habana , and to finish, they enjoyed the Martell Blue Swift Cognac with the Cuaba and its Divinos shape. These activities were hosted by David Castellanos, Senior at Habanos Academy and Brand Ambassador of IEPT.
On Saturday, October 24th, attendees enjoyed other Master Conferences such as the art of rolling a cigar, by Ana Isel Mederos, a Cigar Roller with more than 20 years of experience and member of the tasting panel of El Laguito Tobacco Factory; followed by the conference of Zoe Nocedo, who was Director of the Tobacco Museum that delighted attendees with the conference on the History of Tobacco and its evolution to the present day as Cuba’s ambassador to the World. This was followed by Master Fernando Fernández who gave a lecture on “The Art of Marriage” in which he offered the main aspects of this fantastic practice of accompanying cigars correctly. But this was not all, they also lived the experience of carrying out a Mixology workshop with Jorge “Coco” Ojeda Brand Ambassador of Havana Club for Mexico, accompanied by a Rafael González Habano and his Petit Coronas shape, and a 15 Years Havana Club Rum Pairing with the Juan López Selection No. 2 Habano, led by Manolo Santiago. Finally, Alfredo Guerra, Havana Club’s International Ambassador, presented the Havana Club Tributo 2020 Rum which was paired with Montecristo Añejados.
Another activity was the Ashes Contest in which more than 20 people participated. H. Upmann Magnum 50 was the Habano chosen for the competition and Sergio Ruiz was the winner of the contest presenting a 121 mm long ash.
The closing ceremony of this virtual event was attended by Leopoldo Cintra González and José María López Inchaurbe, Commercial Vice President and Vice President of Development of Habanos S.A. and Pablo Velasco, General Director of IEPT S.A. de C.V.
All this accompanied by live Cuban music.
The event was attended by beginnners, aficionados, connoisseurs, collectors, renowned chefs, actors as well as opinion leaders regarding the tobacco lifestyle and world.
