H. Upmann Humidor

hupmann1H.Upmann is one of the oldest Habanos brands. Since its creation, in 1844 the brand can be easily recognized by the wide array of sizes which happily combines the mild to medium flavoured taste of the blend and the characteristic aroma of its productions.

Habanos from H. Upmann encompass their own character according to the style of its founders and its devoted brand lovers. The balanced touch of beauty and elegance is attributed to its presentation and packaging. All the Habanos from H.Upmann are totally hand made, long filler cigars made with leaves coming from Vuelta Abajo, the best tobacco region in Cuba.

Item Features

This Humidor was created under a contemporary style and design, upon a fusion of simple and elegant lines resulting in an attractive yet refined visual composition. A thorough cabinetwork offers a refreshing air that suggests a perfect balance between classicism and modernity.

Totally crafted by hand, precious woods were used in its manufacture such as Mahogany and Cedar which smooth texture and natural shades turn this humidor into collectible furniture. Divided into three integrated parts, it has 2 doors and 4 drawers inside to preserve 300 Habanos at its best conditions and with more room for boxes. Total capacity: 650 Habanos.

It contains the following sizes: 50 Magnum 46, 50 Sir Winston, 50 Upmann No. 2, 50 Noellas, 25 Robustos, 25 Grandes and 50 Magnum 50.

Piece built by Adalberto González Albisa, Abel Plasencia, along with the participation of Armando Jesús Vicente, Adalberto González Crespo under the creative direction of J.L. Milán Domínguez.

Adalberto Domínguez is a member of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods of the DECUBA group of Artisans. Under license of Habanos s.a. he has specialized in crafting beautifully carved humidors for brands such as Montecristo and Vegas Robaina. His works has been exhibited in different international events and are also part of the private collections in many countries. He has also participated at the Auctions in past editions of the Festivals, awarded with different prizes. The Master Crafter award stands out among them and was bestowed by Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods at FIART 2008.

Hoyo de Monterrey Humidor

HoyoMonterrey1Hoyo de Monterrey owes its origin to the town of San Juan y Martinez, which lies at the heart of the Vuelta Abajo tobacco region, in Pinar del Río. The creation of the brand dates back as far as 1860.

The mild flavoured blend of Hoyo de Monterrey is acknowledged by its loyal devotees who like to enjoy its flavour and characteristic aroma.

All Hoyo de Monterrey sizes are totally hand made, long filler and the leaves used in its blend come from the Vuelta Abajo region.

Item Features

A humidor to match these humidor has been donated by Humidif, a Company ruled by Mr. Diego Barrero Canela, with a wide experience in the making of humidors, ironworks and accessories for the smokers as well.

Made up by precious woods combined with metal provides the right balance to this dazzling design where the functionality and aesthetics come together in harmony. Housing 300 Habanos in 7 humidified trays that release easily and showing one of a kind exclusivity this Humidor is, undoubtedly, a piece to remember.

It contains: 300 Habanos from Hoyo de Monterrey: 50 Epicure Especial, 25 Epicure No. 1, 25 Epicure No. 2, 50 Double Coronas, 50 Extravaganza, 50 Particulares and 50 Gran Pirámides.

Romeo y Julieta Humidor and Torres Wine Cooler

RomeoJulieta1Romeo y Julieta, was created in 1875 as a Habano brand. Named after William Shakespeare’s play, is regarded as a brand not only to enjoy but to dream. Romeo y Julieta offers one of the widest range of sizes among the Habano brands. Its balanced and aromatic blend of selected tobacco leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region makes Romeo y Julieta the classic medium-flavoured Habano.

Item features

Humidor made with Cuban precious woods such as ebony, cedar and yellow jocuma. Its design and making is a fine expression of delicate cabinetwork where stands out the logo of the brand engraved in the forefront of the piece. It contains: 350 Habanos distributed as follows: 50 Churchills, 50 Short Churchills, 50 Romeos, 25 Exhibición No. 2, 50 Cazadores Especiales, 25 Hermosos No. 2, 50 Fabulosos No.6 and 50 Petit Pirámides.

Author´s information

This masterpiece was elaborated by the JGARRIDOC group represented by Julio César Garrido, Artist from the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods, who has participated at various international exhibitions in Spain, France and Belgium. His works can be found among private collections in various countries of the world and also took part in the Auctions at several Habano Festivals.

Mas La Plana Wine Cooler

Catavinos1Right in the Penedés region, Spain, a small vineyard of 29ha is the heart of Mas La Plana, where the most selected Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are grown for giving birth to the most prestigious red wine from Torres, with a limited production and worldwide recognition.

The historic farm Mas La Plana, exclusively aimed to produce the wine of same name, is located in Pacs, in the Penedés Central. On these blessed lands, once owned by the Condes de Barcelona, the Cabernet sauvignon red grapes have found the right conditions to grow. Mas La Plana is also know as Etiqueta Negra and The King of Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a wine where all the grapes come from a single vineyard, with low productions, painstaking winemaking and it ages approximately for 18 months in fresh French oak.

It has been tasted by many professionals and it has received highest scores in different publications such as Robert Parker´s Wine Advocate, Wine Magazine and Wine Spectator. Awarded with the Gold Medal at Challenge international du Vin in 1995 y Mundus Vini in 1997.

This amazing Wine Cooler has been built to preserve the wine bottles in perfect conditions and contains a total of 120 Mas La Plana bottles of 750 ml from different years distributed as follows:

Partagás Humidor

partagas2Among the most prestigious brands of Habanos, Partagás is, without a doubt, the best expression of the unique character of the Cuban tobacco. Since 1845, all the sizes are made in the world famous Partagás Factory, a must visit for those who wish to know the inner secrets of the Cuban Culture, and specially, of the best tobacco in the world.

The character of its blend is particularly rich and aromatic. Because of that, Partagás, with over 150 years of history, still is the preferred brand for those who enjoy deep, intense flavours.

It boasts emblematic vitolas of unquestionable international prestige for Habanos lovers: the Lusitanias, the Serie D. No 4 and the classic 8-9-8.

All the sizes are made totally by hand with long filler tobacco coming from the Vuelta Abajo region, the westernmost part of the Island.

Item features

This Humidor is made in fragrant Cuban Cedar and in its design; the well known attributes of the brand can be seen. Totally hand made where some Art Decó elements were added by the artist along with the use of techniques of old school of cabinetwork. Also brass foil was used as decorative finishing regarding the embossing.

Dimensions: 96 x 57 x 35 cm.

This humidor contains 350 Habanos form Partagás: 50 Salomones, 25 Serie P No. 2, 50 8-9-8, 25 Serie D No. 4, 50 Serie P No. 1, 50 Lusitanias, 50 Sobresalientes y 50 Gran Pirámides.

Designed by Ivens Reges Rivera, a graduate from the Design Institute and made by the artirst Marlene Silvera Segura and Moisés González Acosta. Marlene Silvera Segura: Sculptor graduated form San Alejandro Fine Arts School and the Design Institute. She is a member of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods and her works have been exhibited in Cuba and abroad.

Moisés González Acosta: Self-taught craftsman with a vast experience and recognition in different exhibitions and fairs both in Cuba and abroad. Their works are a part of the decoration of different cigar lounges, Casas del Habano and protocol halls around the world. They have participated in former auctions and other important activities for Habanos s.a.

Painting: Tobacco Growing in Pinar del Río

cuadroPartagas2Added to this lot is a beautiful framed painting of a Cuban painter known as Joanicot. Playing with symbols clearly visible of the Cuban scenario and the traditional tobacco as a cultural icon, his work is expression of modernity.

Author´s information

Jorge José Luis Joanicot, graduated from Fundación Villate School of Fine Arts. Since 2000 is a member of the Jury of the Valentin Sanz Carta annual contest by the Canary Islands Association Leonor Pérez Cabrera.

He has participated in many contests and being awarded with prizes. He has personal and collective exhibitions in Cuba and abroad. Many of his works are to be found in private collections in countries such as Spain, USA, Czech Republic, Russia, Germany, Italy, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Chile, México, Bulgary, France and specially Netherlands.

Montecristo Humidor

Monte3Montecristo is the best known and a classic among the Auction of Humidors in the Habano Festival.

The name comes from the hero of Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Count of Montecristo’, which was a firm favourite amongst the cigar rollers at the factory where it was founded.

Since 1935, Montecristo is a benchmark worldwide. Montecristo’s perfectly balanced blend is created exclusively with selected leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region, home of the finest tobaccos in the world. Its distinctive medium to full flavour and distinguished aroma appeal equally to both new and experienced smokers.

Item Features

The design and creation of this piece is based on the deepest feelings of the main character of the Dumas masterpiece’s The Count of Montecristo. It shows an exclusive yet innovative combination of crafting techniques along with main aesthetics definition. Refined cabinetwork is appreciated along the flat lines that merge with superb in-laid marquetry.

This exclusive humidor, also depicts a wood and metal combination htaadds more beauty to the piece. Precious woods such as Mahogany, Cedar, Picsi, precious stones and metals (Plate and brass).

Dimensions: 135 x 64 x 44 cm.

It contains 375 Habanos: 25 Montecristo A, 50 Petit Edmundo, 50 Montecristo No. 2, 25 Eagle, 25 Master, 25 Regata, 25 Junior, 25 Double Coronas, 50 Edmundo, 50 Montecristo No. 4 and 25 Maravillas No. 1.

Trinidad Humidor

trinidad4The Trinidad brand is named after the beautiful 16th Century city of La Santisima Trinidad (The Holy Trinity), listed by UNESCO as a historical monument, which is situated on Cuba’s south coast.

Trinidad, as a Habano, dates back to 1969 but for many years, like Cohiba, it was made only for gifts to foreign diplomats. Not until 1998 was it released for general sale and then only in small quantities. From the very beginning, it was internationally welcome with so much warmth due to its astonishing quality and presentation.

The Habano Festival is the perfect venue to celebrate its 40th Anniversary of its creation and the 10th of its market release with the construction of this exclusive humidor in such memorable occasion.

Item Features

Inspired in the City of Trinidad, a village of international prestige with the reminiscence of Colonial times and with remarkable influence of the Spanish baroque. The piece boasts garnished balconies with gates of precious woods and red roof tiles that render tribute to the architecture of the village and the 40 anniversary of the Trinidad brand.

The Humidor is made of fragrant cedar, mahogany, majagua, ebony carbonero and Sangre de Doncella. Crafted totally by hand, with amazing cabinetwork, carvings and marquetry, this piece combines the natural colour of each wood create a powerful aesthetic effect and communicate the attributes of such renowned brand.

5 master crafters were involved in its manufacture. 921 roof pieces, 244 supporting beams, 689 balcony, doors and windows pieces were used, totalizing over 7 000 tiny pieces of woods. In its interior, 6 drawers are assembled to preserve more than 1000 Habanos. Lying on the table, the piece also has additional spaces where the smoker’s accessories can be stored. Dimensions: 175 x 120 x 56 cm.

This humidor contains 400 Habanos: 50 Robustos Extra, 50 Fundadores, 75 Coloniales, 50 Reyes, 75 Robustos T, 50 Ensueño and 50 Torre Iznaga.

This Humidor was developed by DECUBA group of Artisans, Arte en Maderas, under the artistic direction and execution of J.L.Milán Domínguez, Leuvis Santos along with the participation of Octavio Garcías, Enrique Rosel, Miguel Cabrera y Omar Garcías.

Milán is a member of Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods, founder and director of DECUBA group specialized in producing and marketing beautifully carved humidors. Many of his works have been auctioned in different Habano Festivals. He has been bestowed with different prizes where the Master Crafter award stands above all the rest.

Santos Domínguez is a dedicated master crafter known by his creativity and skills when it comes to carvings and marquetry. He has carried out important labour training young artists. 21 of his pieces were taken to 18 International Fairs including the Habanos Festivals. 15 of his works have gone into auctions and now are part of private collections by Exclusive Distributors, Casas del Habano and important collectors in Cuba, Belgium and Netherlands.

Cohiba Humidor

cohiba2Cohiba was born in 1966 and came as a big surprise to the tobacco world. It’s the brand of the highest prestige in the tobacco world. Its name became rapidly famous because it encompasses all the essence of Cuba, its history, origins and culture.

The leaves for Cohiba are the “selection of the selection” from the five finest Vegas in the San Juan y Martinez and San Luis zones of the Vuelta Abajo region. Uniquely amongst Habanos two of Cohiba’s filler leaves, the seco and ligero, undergo a third fermentation in barrels, which adds smoothness to the blend. The process of making a Cohiba is characterized by the passion and dedication of high skilled rollers in delivering a unique flavour and aroma, along with the beauty of its wrappers.

At the Auction, the Cohiba brand and its sought-after vitolas are always present because represents the highest expression of exclusivity, luxury and success. Cohiba is the Habano that everybody wants to smoke.

Item Features

A stunning work of art. This Cohiba humidor is a piece that clearly reflects the exclusive nature and the modernity of the brand. The humidor as a whole, express the fusion between originality and nature, the aesthetical beauty and the success of the brand through time. Precious Cuban woods were used in its construction such as ebony, mahogany, cedar and picsi. The use of copper, brass, steel and aluminium in conjunction with other precious materials such as Mother of Pearl, confers this piece a touch of minimalist beauty.

This humidor comprises two towers with 17 drawers and storage for sealed boxes. It contains 400 Habanos as follows: 25 Genios, 25 Mágicos, 25 Secretos, 50 Siglo II, 50 Siglo IV, 50 Espléndidos, 50 Robustos, 50 Lanceros, 25 Gran Corona, 25 Sublimes Extra and 25 Siglo VI.

Author’s information

José Ernesto Aguilera Reina. Self-taught Cuban craftsman, designer and goldsmith. He has wide experience recognized and several awards at various trade fairs and personal and collective exhibitions in Cuba and abroad. His works decorate and embellish several salons, libraries, restaurants and murals in Havana hotels. In 1995, he was awarded the title of Master Craftsman by Cuba´s Ministry of Construction. His works have been sold in various art galleries since 1994, including two exports of humidors to France, as well as Italy, the USA, Russia, Germany, Mexico and the UK. His works are a fundamental part in the Auction of the Habano Festival.

During a speech on January 2nd, 1964. Liborio Noval let “Che” use one of his cameras. Once when printing his own work, he noticed that Che himself took a picture of Fidel with one of them. Milton Bernal recreates this picture in oil on paper and encrusted in natural tobacco leaves specially selected to give birth to this work.

Liborio Noval (1934), Famous Cuban photographer, who has the opportunity to picture “Che” in his political life and other public appearances in which he took part, including voluntary works and other social activities interacting with the Cuban people. He has participated in many of the most important political moments and accompanied Fidel on his various travels. His works has been shown in magazines, newspapers both national and international as well as in Photography books.

Milton Bernal Castro (1960) Painter and designer. Member of the National Federation of Fine Arts. He has participated in various personal and collective exhibitions in Cuba and abroad. His technique has been recognized and granted different awards in exhibitions held in Matanzas and Barcelona. His works have been selected to be a part of the Auction at the Habanos festivals in three times.
