Last July 13th, the International Symposium HABANA-HABANOS 2011 closed its doors. The event is organized annually by the Tobacco Museum of the Havana City Historian Bureau and supported by Habanos, S.A.
Under the topic “Habanos: Nature, culture and identity”, the 4th edition helped to gather many Habanos lovers and participated speakers and guests from Cuba, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Italy, Argentina, Mexico, Finland and Peru.
A Master lecture offered by Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, Historian of the City of Havana marked the opening of the Symposium and was followed by a large program of activities. The visit to the tobacco plantations and cigar factories in the Pinar del Río province, the best tobacco region in Cuba, signed the beginning of the whole program. During the week, all guests had the oportunity to attend to great lectures and panels related to the Habano, conducted by renowned researchers and Habanos lovers of worldwide prestige.
A post-event meeting, the International Maridage Workshop, worked as the perfect closing for the 4th Symposium where not only sommeliers, bartenders, restaurant staff and maîtres were attending but also staff in charge of the commercialization of the Habano at all levels.
A remarkable and very interesting experience for the guests was the meeting with the 4 Rum Master Blenders and the visit to the Cuban Rum factories as well as the pairing up lessons combining Habanos with liqueurs from different regions of the world.
