Culmina XIII Concurso Nacional Habanosommelier
After a long competitive session, the 13th National Habanosommelier Contest, an annual event organized by Habanos, S.A., concluded last January 31 at the Marinello Hall of Hotel Occidental Miramar. In this occasion, the contest was held among the 15 sommeliers who had won at regional level throughout the country.
Pedro Tejeda Torres, Habanosommelier from “La Bodeguita del Medio”, one of Cuba’s most emblematic restaurants, was the winner of this 13th edition, and will represent Cuba at the 12th International Habanosommelier Contest during the 15th Habanos Festival, to be held from February 26 to March 2. The second and third places were obtained by Andrés Piñón Rivas, sommelier at Hostal San Felipe Neri, an entity of Habaguanex, and Manuel Betancour, maître at Kiki’s Club restaurant in Varadero.
Likewise, the three sommeliers who will take part in the Third International Blind Tasting have also been chosen. They are: Osiris Oramas Oliver, manager of La Barca restaurant; Osmín Hernández, from Hotel Meliá Cohiba, and Ivonne de la Puente del Sol, teacher at the School of the Bartenders’ Association of Cuba.
